"Walk a Day in Our Shoes"
Pity the Program Chairs for local quilt guilds. It’s not easy to find interesting speakers to fit within the typical group's budget. Enter the local quilt shop owner and local pattern designer.
Here's something Lisa Mullins of Wandering Stitches in Orlando, Fla. and I did for a large local guild entitled "Walk a Day in Our Shoes." Using an Q&A format, we asked and responded to each other as a way of discussing ourselves and our businesses. Typical questions were, “How did you get started?” “What have you done prior that prepared you for this?” “What are your biggest challenges?” “What skills do you bring to the table?”
We kept it light and fun even using a little humor at times and of course the audience also had questions for each of us. A designer might offer some of her patterns for sale and the shop owner show some of the latest notions she has in her shop.
