If time is available to make something just for me, I turn to a tried and true designer such as Penny Haren. Using a pattern from Penny’s “Log Cabin Quilts,” her seventh and latest book, I started making a pillow top and was having so much fun it quickly grew to king size. The book is published by Landauer Publishing, sells for $18.95 and is already a bestseller.
Penny says she likes designs that involve math. Her family loves numbers and she loves to see her ideas translate into patterns. She does five big shows annually and her current book tour has had 29 stops. Penny is a former shop owner and knows what it takes to make a pattern both “sewable” and “kitable.” It all revolves around the trifecta consisting of pattern, tools and fabrics.
