The series began in 1970 and each year since she has added to it, making a different ornament design every year and then giving them as gifts to family and friends.

According to the story, the original design idea came from a long ago magazine article and those receiving the ornaments that first Christmas 40 years ago liked them so much that in the second year a tradition was born. Needlepoint is one of Travis’ many sewing and craft hobbies when she is not designing patterns for her company Eazy Peazy Quilts. The company publishes patterns for quilters to use the skills learned for quilting to make unique, useful and fun items such as handbags and handbag accessories.

Additionally Eazy Peazy has a line of items for those using walkers and wheelchairs under the brand name of Eazier Livin’.

Readers of Needlepoint Now are directed in the article to the Eazy Peazy web site, www.EazyPeazyQuilts.com, to download a copy of a needlepoint Christmas ornament pattern similar to those done by Travis at no charge.

Media: Additional information is available on www.EazyPeazyQuilts.com or by calling (863) 409-9786. The one-year old company purchased exhibit space on the show floor to promote its line of handbag and accessory patterns.

Not open to the public, the Houston Fall Market has attendees from around the world from all categories of quilt shops and suppliers of quilters needs.

The Eazy Peazy booth attracted a constant flow of interested visitors according to Travis with many shop owners being drawn to the display of handbags. “Both the Divine Diamonds Handbag and the Heavenly Textured Handbag drew attention in the booth,” said Travis. “Having said that though, our Eazier Livin’ line of items for those using walkers and wheelchairs were also popular. Patterns such as the Sassy Smock, the Stroller or Wheelchair Backpack and the Walker Saddlebag are really unique. Shop owners like that and know the patterns will sell.”

Travis also stressed Eazy Peazy patterns help quilt shop owners with add-on sales, not just the fabric. “When someone buys a Divine Diamonds Handbag pattern there is the opportunity to sell a Double Diamonds Ruler for cutting the design on the front of the handbag...a clear add-on and more revenue to the shop.”

Travis continued, “The same add-on sale is true with our Heavenly Textured Handbag and Second Heaven Handbag which both make use of Texture Magic. We like using Texture Magic because it gives a unique and ‘professionally done’ look to the finished handbag and because the shop owners make more profit.”

Eazy Peazy has already started planning for the 2011 Fall Quilt Market. More patterns will be available next year with several in development currently following the Travis’ idea of creating patterns for fun, feminine and easy to make items.

Media: Additional information is available on www.EazyPeazyQuilts.com or by calling (863) 409-9786. Travis chose to concentrate on unique yet functional designs and so was born the Eazy Peazy Quilts line of patterns for quilters and sewers.

The one-of-a-kind designed patterns, each employing materials and techniques not usually associated with quilting, are available to make purses, purse accessories and other useful items...two examples standout.

First is the use of Texture Magic™ from Superior Threads to give a textured surface to the quilted parts of the Eazy Peazy’s Heavenly Textured Handbag and Second Heaven Handbag. Both patterns are feminine, stylish and unique making the handbags perfect for gifts or personal use.

Secondly and one of the newest Eazy Peazy patterns, the Divine Diamonds Handbag, incorporates a diamond design made with the Double Diamond Ruler from Bright Notions. This design has already made fans among quilt shop owners though its introduction was just this fall.

Eazy Peazy also has a line of patterns for those in wheelchairs or who use walkers named Eazier Livin’. Travis said the idea came to her when she realized some people who have some difficulty getting around often can use a bit of help, “Making every day a little easier.” The Eazier Livin’ patterns for a Sassy Smock, Stroller or Wheelchair Backpack and Walker Saddlebag are distinctive and useful with growing popularity. The Backpack and Saddlebag patterns can be adapted for men, an often forgotten segment of the market. Women enjoy being able to make a bit of a fashion statement with their walkers and wheelchairs and by wearing the Sassy Smock.

Travis began sewing as a young girl in Ohio and gradually added to her sewing skills while also becoming an accomplished knitter, creative needlepoint pattern designer and award-winning quilter. This background gives her an understanding of the importance of quality patterns. That’s why Eazy Peazy’s slogan is “Sew So Easy”. The patterns are written to take the user through the process step by step to completion making them adaptable to all skill levels.

Each pattern, in addition to specifying fabric types and quantities and exactly the correct additional items, has clearly written step by step numbered directions and helpful graphics to achieve the ‘Designer Look.’

Travis commented, “To my mind that’s what we are all about. Exciting, feminine and fun patterns for handbags, accessories and other useful items that can be given as gifts or used personally.”

She continued, “We believe in complete and thoroughly tested instructions. They are as vital and important to us as they are to our pattern users so we invest significant time and money to produce some of the best illustrated and most clearly written patterns on the market. Plus we stand behind them with same day replies to any questions. After all, we want to live up to our name, Eazy Peazy.”

Media: Additional information is available on www.EazyPeazyQuilts.com or by calling (863) 409-9786. A group of young mothers in Palmyra, New York gathered at a friend’s home to learn something new. The wide range of colors and the feel of the wool was what kept the craft interesting to her.

Margaret’s most ambitious project was in the late 1970’s when some of the women of Zion Episcopal Church in Palmyra decided to make altar rail kneeling cushions. They were done in beautiful rich maroons and deep golds and are still in use. She remembers doing the largest cushion, the one for the center that took two years to complete.

At the same time she started a series of dated Christmas ornaments for family members, made each year in a different design. The original idea came from a kit purchased from a needlework catalog. The second year was an original dove design, which not knowing any better, she placed stitches on the canvas as she went (not knowing enough to mark on the canvas). Margaret says, “Since I’m not an artist, it makes me laugh when I see it each year…it’s certainly not a recognizable Audubon specimen!”

Over the years, motifs were used from both patterns and original designs. “It was a way to chronicle what might have happened during the preceding year. The question in the family still is, ‘what’s this year’s ornament going to be?’ I start the first of six each October to finish in time for Christmas. There are years when my own personal one is not done and is finished the following spring.” Margaret claims.

Presently she’s designing quilted purse and purse accessories plus sewables for the handicapped sold under the Eazy Peazy Quilts brand. www.EazyPeazyQuilts.com. Her patterns are sold in quilt shops all over the country and in several online stores.

One of her purse designs, the Bodacious Brag Bag, lends itself to a needlepoint monogram or motif.

No matter how busy she is, though, there will always be the yearly Christmas ornaments. Traditions are not made to be broken!
